Maqui Superfruit Review
| December 2, 2009 | Filled under Reviews |

I’m going to switch gears a little bit here today. It’s been a while since I’ve done a straight-up product review. I generally only accept samples of items that I can incorporate into recipes (and I never guarantee that I’ll write about them). I also don’t generally “do” supplements. But when I was offered some samples of Maqui Superfruit products something caught my eye – they said that I could add it to yogurt, oatmeal, or red wine. I was intrigued. The thought of making a glass of wine “healthy” was too tempting to resist!
By the time my samples arrived, I came to my senses and realized that 1) it was ridiculous to try to justify my glass of wine by adding a supplement to it and 2) adding this to my wine seemed like a really good was to ruin said glass of wine. So much for that idea!
As I read the packaging though, I really did get interested in this stuff. Just 1 Tablespoon of the liquid contains three fruit servings! I can always use help when it comes to eating fruit – especially this time of year when it seems like nothing is in season and everything is expensive. It’s a great source of vitamin C and potassium, and is very high in antioxidants AND it’s organic! It seemed too good to be true, but I looked it up and apparently the maqui berry comes from an evergreen shrub native to Chile (there’s also a Chilean wine made from the fruit).
Since I never really like powdered drinks (I’ve never even liked powdered iced tea or anything like that), I decided to start with the liquid concentrate. You can either reconstitute the liquid with water or drink it as it. Based on the smell I decided the best move would be to get it down the hatch as quickly as possible, so I chose to try it straight up. In a shot glass, which I figured would be the best way to bypass the taste buds.

vita-veta-vegimite – thats what this reminded me of – an old I love Lucy episode – pretty funny – and the disclaimer – wow I need to remember to do that.
“And it’s tasty too!” Hahaha. I totally meant to make a vitameatavegemin reference in this post, but I forgot That’s totally what it reminded me of… but it actually does taste pretty good and it won’t get you drunk.
you look so cute! and that stuff looks kinda good.
I like the photo sequence, so cute!
Ha, love that last picture!! : )
I agree, I don’t think it tastes that bad by itself either … just really strong!
Thanks for sharing your Maqui Berry story. Yup! The photos look nice
Now the real question becomes will you buy it when your sample runs out?
